Saturday's games
LaSalle (5-10, 0-0 Atlantic 10) at Richmond (11-4, 0-0 Atlantic 10), 2 p.m.
Getting two solid road victories at Wake Forest and Appalachian State should set the Spiders up well to begin A-10 play at home against a team they've beaten four times in a row. Expect Spiders star Brittani Shells to lead the way; the A-10 scoring leader (17.9 ppg) and Nancy Lieberman Award nominee has led Richmond in scoring in all but one game. Richmond 69, LaSalle 52
Norfolk St. (2-7, 0-1 MEAC) at Bethune-Cookman (4-8, 0-1 MEAC), 2 p.m.
The Spartans have lost 24 straight MEAC road games since a 69-59 victory at Maryland-Eastern Shore on Jan. 3, 2007. Their best shot at snapping that streak during this two-game Florida road trip is today; Monday's opponent, Florida A&M, might be the best team in the MEAC. Bethune-Cookman 66, Norfolk State 63
High Point (9-6, 2-0 Big South) at Radford (2-10, 1-0 Big South), 3 p.m.
Apparently, the Highlanders just don't like non-conference games as this is the second straight year they've followed a 1-10 start with a victory over Gardner-Webb in their Big South opener. Not sure Radford can make it two in a row against another preseason conference favorite, but since this is a conference game, we're not betting against them, either. Radford 67, High Point 66
Coppin St. (3-8, 0-1 MEAC) at Hampton (4-8, 0-1 MEAC), 4 p.m.
We project Hampton to run with the top teams in the MEAC, especially now that guard Whitney Hill is back on the floor, and they've already underperformed once in conference play by losing to Howard. A solid Hampton effort today should lead to a comfortable win. Hampton 69, Coppin State 54
Winthrop (6-7, 1-0 Big South)at Liberty (8-4, 0-1 Big South), 7 p.m.
The Lady Eagles are just the kind of team the Lady Flames can get their defensive teeth into. Expect Winthrop to have trouble boosting their point total above the low 50s; assuming the Lady Flames can control their own turnovers, they should win this one by a bunch. Liberty 72, Winthrop 55
