Let's get it started: William and Mary

Another installment in our series of previews of the state's Division I programs as they approach their first official practices:

WILLIAM AND MARY

Last season: 12-18, 5-13 CAA (11th), lost in 1st round of the CAA Tournament (Hofstra)

First practice: Oct. 13. The Tribe will hold a "minicamp" over the next three days followed by a short workout on Friday before separating for Fall Break Saturday through Oct. 12.

Season opener: Nov. 14 at Wisconsin

Coach Debbie Taylor on:

Her players' offseason work: "They worked hard over the summer and came back in great shape. The team has great chemistry on and off the court. We return 10 players and 4 starters, and the young players from last year’s starting lineup gained valuable game experience and are much improved."

Veterans poised for breakout seasons: Our four returning starters and young players from last season have made great strides.  As three juniors and three sophomores, their strength and conditioning levels, their maturity and their skill levels have significantly improved.  Taysha Pye, Janine Aldridge, Katherine DeHenzel, Jackie McKenna, Taylor Hilton and Emily Correal will make us a very different team this season.

Newcomers likely to adjust quickly: Both freshmen, Kaitlyn Mathieu and Victoria Willems, have been impressive in preseason, came in well prepared, Kaitlyn is strong and physical, andVictoria is in great shape. They both learn quickly and are getting better every day. Both will have an opportunity to make an impact this season.
