Let's get it started: Longwood

Another installment in our series of previews of the state's Division I programs as they approach their first official practices:

LONGWOOD

Last season: 9-20

First practice: Monday

Meet the Lancers: Longwood will hold an event on Nov. 1. Details are still being worked out.

Season opener: Nov. 12 vs. Campbell in the (Longwood) Lancer Classic

Coach Kristin Caruso on:

Her players preseason work: "We have been very pleased with our preseason thus far. We can really tell that the players worked extremely hard over the summer because they have come back faster and stronger than ever before. Their work ethic and intensity that has been seen in our conditioning and weight room will hopefully transfer into practice."

Veteran poised for a breakout season: Brittanni Billups. "Brittanni has really matured since coming to Longwood. The last ten games of the season we started to see her blossom and we hope to see her build on that potential this season. She worked very hard this past summer to become faster and stronger. Brittanni is showing great work ethic and consistency that will lead to great things for our program."

Newcomer most likely to adjust quickly: Brittany Jones. "We are very excited to have Brittany playing this season after having to sit out due to her transferring to Longwood (from North Florida). She has stepped up and become one of the vocal leaders on the team and has the potential to be our shutdown defender. She has the ability to play multiple positions that will make her a threat on the wing and in the post. She also has a nose for the ball and numerous intangibles that will make us a lot better."
