We generally love the wittiness and candor of Rebecca Lobo, but Wednesday's twitter post makes her sound like an embittered UConn fan rather than an impartial broadcaster.
From Lobo: "Been coaching my 5-yr-old's bball team at the Y for 4 weeks. 2nite she Della Donned me. After our team won 2-0 : 'I want to take a break'"
Delle Donne left UConn during the summer of 2008 and she handled the situation with aplomb. This wasn't a kid who didn't want to work. She was a college freshman who realized she made a choice that wasn't the right one for herself. It is heartwarming how close Delle Donne is to sister Lizzie, who is blind, deaf and has cerebral palsy and a big reason why Elena wanted to remain close to home in Delaware. She has been an awesome addition to Tina Martin's basketball team there, where she has boosted attendance and hit a buzzer beater. Delle Donne also leads the Blue Hens in scoring, rebounding, blocks, free-throw percentage and minutes played.
Let's put the Delle Donne bashing to rest. After all, how much has defending national champion UConn, winner of its last 52 games behind by the game's best player (Maya Moore) and the WNBA's 2010 top draft pick (Tina Charles) really suffered in all of this?
Well said, ladyswish!
