Earlier today, we laid out a scenario by which the Spiders would shock the world and upset the mighty Musketeers. Well, writing it is one thing. Actually going out and pulling it off is obviously a whole different animal.
No. 7 Xavier 79, Richmond 57: Richmond needed a very good shooting night; instead the Spiders missed their first 16 shots of the second half, siphoning all drama regarding the outcome. Brittani Shells was magnificent, scoring 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting and 4 steals in 32 minutes. But there were few other highlights from the Spiders, who combined to hit just 2 of 17 3-point shots. The key now is to not let this loss linger. The Spiders (15-9, 6-4 Atlantic 10) were no doubt geeked up to put on a good show against Xavier, but hey, that's life in the A-10. Richmond is still on track to do significantly better than the 7-7 A-10 mark they posted last year. A hangover from a tough night against Xavier is the last thing they need.
