JC power forward verbals to Old Dominion

According to All-Star Girls Report, Shae Kelley, a 6-0 power forward who spent a brief time at Colorado and played this season at Northwest Florida State College, has verbally committed to Old Dominion.

Kelley averaged 13.7 points and 7.6 rebounds for the Lady Raiders (23-6), who saw their season end Thursday night with a loss to Palm Beach State in the first round of the NJCAA Region VIII tournament. Kelley led the Lady Raiders with 18 points.

Kelley led Denver East High to a state title and was named Ms. Colorado Basketball by the Denver Post in 2010. She signed with Colorado, but left the school shortly before the team's first game, citing personal reasons. Kelley also transferred three times during her four years of high school.

But she found a home at Northwest Florida State. Kelley sat out the 2010-11 season but still drew raves from coach Patrick Harrington for her work ethic.

"It was her willingness to get better, her willingness to improve her game, her willingness to go hard every day," Harrington said. "She will go as hard as anyone at any Division I school. She's such a good person, and she practices every day like it's going to be her best day."

The addition of Kelley would bolster a projected 2012-13 ODU roster that features a generous assortment of promising guards but is thin on frontcourt personnel.
