The last time Stanford was in Norfolk was 1999. to play Maine in a subregional at the fieldhouse. Maine upset them and went on to lose to ODU. The year before Stanford as a NO 1 lost to 16th seed Harvard. The only time in either the men's or women's tournaments a 16 beat a 1.

Old Dominion would fall in the 1999 Regional to Duke, the year Duke went to the Final Four.

The next year (2000) NC State was upset in the last subregional played at the field house by SMU coarch by former LM Rhonda Rompola. ODU fell in Kansas City to La Tech in the regional. One of 5 in a row they made to end the century.

BTW the Maine team chowed up on their first night in town at the Spaghetti Warehouse. Oh the power of Italian Food.
