Saturday's recaps

TODAY'S STAR

Rachel Gordon, NSU

   - Spartans freshman dropped 20 points on St. Paul's in her collegiate debut as NSU rolled up their largest margin of victory since 2008.

NOTABLE NUGGETS

    - Liberty falls to 0-2 for the first time in 10 years

    - Lady Flames sophomore Jelena Antic scored a team-high 16 points and made the Wolfpack Invitational all-tournament team

    - Brittanni Billups goes for 21 points and 14 rebounds in defeat for Longwood

Told ya! - Norfolk State 68, St. Paul's 44. We said: Norfolk State 57, St. Paul's 52. OK, so we didn't see a blowout coming. But it's the only one we got right.

Uh, we can explain... - Marshall 62, Longwood 54. We said: Longwood 66, Marshall 52

THE GAMES

Norfolk State 68, St. Paul's 44: The Spartans (1-0) held St. Paul's to just 15 points in the first half. In addition to Gordon's heroics, Batavia Owens and Whitney Long added 11 points apiece for NSU.

College of Charleston 49, Liberty 46: Although they clearly miss injured scoring leader Devon Brown, this looked more like the Liberty team to which we've become accustomed instead of the offensive imposters who produced Friday's 40-35 loss to Creighton. The Lady Flames (0-2) might have even pulled out a victory had College of Charleston's Tonia Gerty not splashed a 3-pointer with 5.1 seconds remaining to break a 46-46 tie. Turnovers remain a significant problem, though - the Lady Flames committed 26 of them Saturday and 56 in the two games. Creighton and College of Charleston scored 55 points off Liberty mistakes during the Wolfpack Invitational.

Marshall 62, Longwood 54: The Lancers' 32-percent shooting ruined their chances in an otherwise winnable game. Freshman Bria White continued to assert herself with 11 points and was the only Lancer besides Billups to score in double figures.
