Upstart Pirates take on Jackrabbits

Monday's games

Hampton (1-0)  at South Dakota State (1-0), 8 p.m.
James Madison figured to be the team that was South Dakota bound, but nobody told that to the Lady Pirates, who stunned the Dukes in Harrisonburg on Friday in the first round of the preseason WNIT. We'd call that win the biggest in David Six's collegiate career (he's in his second season at HU), but a victory versus the Jackrabbits would top that. Hampton held JMU to 27 percent shooting, but duplicating that feat in Frost Arena is a daunting task. SDSU shot 66 percent in the first half of its season opener against Utah Valley. Pirates could use another monster game by Quanneisha Perry, whose 27 points lit up JMU.
South Dakota State 78, Hampton 66

Ferrum (0-0) at Radford (0-0), 7 p.m.
The Highlanders have the rare opportunity to open their season at home for the first time in 10 years. The good news is Radford has played Ferrum twice, winning with ease, completely irrelevant information since the teams haven't met since Obama was 9 (40 years ago). Forty years later, we don't think the Highlanders will have any trouble getting past the Division II Panthers, finished to pick second in the USA South poll to Christopher Newport.
Radford 61, Ferrum 44

George Mason (1-0) at Fairfield (1-0):
The Patriots, who won their opener on the road against UMass, look to make it two in a row away and two in a row against Fairfield (GMU won by five last year in Fairfax). The Stags shot 47 percent in defeating Quinnipiac in their season opener. Fairfield 65, George Mason 61

  1. You predict 78-66. The final score is 76-64. Only two points off. Impressive!

It is quite baffling to see the reloaded JMU team losing to Hampton on their home floor!
