Tuesday's game:
VCU at Liberty, 7 pm
A few weeks ago we came out with rankings listed the Rams as the top team in the state. We hate to make too many hasty judgments after one poor performance against High Point, especially given the talent VCU has in Courtney Hurt and Andrea Barbour. But the fact is Hurt and Barbour have never been the problems for VCU; it's the rest of the team that needs to find some consistency, so this isn't a two-pony show. As discouraging as it was to see only 12 points from the three other VCU starters, it was encouraging to see nine points from freshman Christina Carter. A year ago the Flames surprised the Rams in Richmond 59-57. The marquee matchup tonight features Hurt vs. Avery Warley; the two combined for 34 double-doubles last season. We're also curious to see how Flames point guard Reagan Miller fares; the freshman had 17 points and two assists in 40 minutes in Liberty's season-opening victory over UNC Greensboro. Who do we like? Um, Liberty, I guess, though the road team has won the last two matchups by the identical score. Liberty 60, VCU 58
