Who says Longwood can't win on the road?
Actually, don't answer that. Just check this out - led by Crystal Smith's 24 points and superb all-around performance, the Lancers knocked off Air Force 59-48 in Colorado Springs, Colo. to claim their first victory away from Longwood in nearly a full calendar year.
The last time the Lancers (3-15) beat someone outside of Willett Hall was on Jan. 24, 2011 when they prevailed by 10 points at UNC Asheville. Longwood followed by losing their final 9 road/neutral site games of the 2010-11 season and their first 13 this year, including Wednesday's 40-point loss at San Diego State.
Saturday, though, the Lancers wiped out an early 9-point deficit and led by as many as 16 en route to their first win anywhere since
In addition to her 24 points, Smith also had 7 rebounds, 7 steals and 5 assists. Mieke Elkington added 13 points, Heather Tobeck chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks and Chelsea Coward notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, who won despite shooting 29 percent from the field and committing 24 turnovers. The Lancers also prevailed without leading scorer and rebounder Brittanni Billups, who did not appear in the game (reason not known at this time).
