Stephanie Gardner, a 5-7 guard from Miami, will join the Lady Monarchs in January 2013. Gardner played the 2010-11 season for nationally ranked Miami, albeit sparingly. Gardner played in 25 games, averaging 8.7 minutes and 1.8 points. The Hurricanes won their first ACC championship last season.
Gardner has started classes at ODU and is practicing with the Lady Monarchs. At Glassboro (NJ) High School, Gardner averaged 22.6 points her senior year and was team MVP. She finished her career with 1,215 points and was All-Tri County first team as a senior. Gardner missed time three of her four years in high school due to injuries. She missed four games her final year of high school due to a bruised tailbone.
When she signed with Miami, Glassboro coach Rick Winsiewski said, "She's the hardest worker on the floor, diving for loose balls and taking charge."
The South Jersey native initially loved the Hurricanes, noting the star gazing in the city, where she caught glimpses of Carlos Boozer, Lebron James and Chris Paul her freshman year.
