Radford survives thriller; Hampton wins

Monday's games:

Radford 68, High Point 63 OT:
Don't look now but the Highlanders are 3-0 in the Big South (and while we didn't say overtime, we predicted a 66-62 Radford win). What we didn't predict was Radford bolting to a 23-6 lead and High Point shooting 18 percent in the first half. Nor did we figure the Panthers would claw their way back, tying the score at the buzzer after an inbound pass with 0.6 seconds on the clock led to a tip-in. High Point (7-9, 1-2) led by five in the OT, but that rare thing called a five-point play lifted the Highlanders after Erica Rivera connected on a 3 and a foul was called off ball. That started a 10-0 run, and all that's left to say is way to go Highlanders (6-10)! Da'Naria Erwin-Spencer led everybody with 24 points.

Hampton 68, Morgan State 35:
HU had the necessary points at half to win this one. Freshman guard Nicole Hamilton continued to shine with 17 points, including 3 from long range. The Bears shot 29 percent, and the Pirates (10-5, 3-0 MEAC) dominated by 19 on the boards.

Florida A&M 81, Norfolk State 72:
NSU played good enough to win this one, shooting 42 percent from the field behind Sarah Daily's 23 points. Trouble is the Rattlers were just a tiny bit better, touting a 46 percent shooting percentage and 25 points from Tameka McKelton. A more aggressive Rattler defense and a few more shots at the foul line also added to the difference, but we figure the time is drawing nearer for the Spartans.
