Delle Donne's No. 1

It's official - Delaware's Elena Delle Donne is just the second player in CAA history to claim Player and Rookie of the Year honors. Former Old Dominion stud Lucienne Berthieu was the first to pull off this double in 1999.

We felt Delle Donne, JMU's Dawn Evans and Drexel's Gabriela Marginean were all worthy picks so there are no POY complaints here. But we doubt CAA Awards Night results pleased the JMU crowd, and not just because Evans was denied the big prize. The second-place Dukes also landed just one player - Evans - on any of the three All-CAA teams and had no representatives on the All-Defensive team. Twice during the banquet via Twitter Dukes coach Kenny Brooks referred to the proceedings as "Comedy Central". Unless somebody gave a really funny speech, we have to believe Brooks wasn't down with the voting.

The link in the first paragraph has all the particulars, but if you're too lazy/buzy to make an extra click, here are the results:

  1. While Coach Brooks comments may have been an effort to stir up his team I think they were beneath the dignity of a college coach. They obviously belittle the accomplishments of those ladies who were selected. Coach Brooks has the tournament in his home facility why does he need anything more?? It surprises me that the Conference hasnt taken some action.
