It's going to be Old Dominion (16-14) vs. Northeastern (13-17) on noon Friday in the first CAA tourney quarterfinals. Despite Yahoo showing a score that credits Georgia State for the win, it will indeed be the Huskies, who defeated the Panthers 46-42 in Thursday's first round. (Not exactly a shoot-the-lights out game, eh?)
No ODU team has dropped a CAA quarterfinal in 17 years, but these Huskies will come in with plenty of confidence. They beat the Lady Monarchs for the first time in program history on Jan. 7 in a triple OT thriller (final score 100-94). ODU led by as many as 12, should have won it in regulation and should have won it again in double OT. But a sloppy third OT and a stat sheet that shows 40 Lady Monarch turnovers (Shadasia Green had 8).
Last time out ODU/NE had 14 ties and 7 lead changes. Who's your pick?
