Syracuse ends VCU's WNIT run
Thirty good minutes weren't quite enough for VCU, which fell at Syracuse Friday night 74-59 in the third round of the WNIT. The Rams (22-13) led by two at halftime and 51-48 after a D'Andra Moss 3-pointer with 10:55 left. But the Rams didn't score another field goal until the 1:27 mark, and the Orange capitalized on the drought to gradually pull away. That VCU ran out of gas was also evidenced in the rebounding stats. The Rams were just a few rebounds shy of the Orange through the first 30 minutes. But at game's end, Syracuse enjoyed a 54-32 advantage on the boards, including 24 offensive rebounds. Nine of those offensive rebounds came over the final 3:50. Moss closed out her stellar career with 31 points. But Courtney Hurt managed just 12 points (Hurt averaged 28 in VCU's first two WNIT games) and Kita Waller scored only 11 before fouling out late. Syracuse (25-10) will visit Michigan on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the WNIT quarterfinals.
