Don't wait till the tip if you're headed to the Constant Center on Wednesday night. If you do, you'll miss what should be one of the most memorable ceremonies in ODU history. Nine of the 11 Lady Monarchs recognized on the CAA Silver Anniversary team will be in honored in a pregame ceremony.
The ODU players who will be present are Mery Andrade (Lisbon, Portugal), Lucienne Berthieu (Rennes, France), Natalie Diaz (Mojave Valley, Ariz.), Shareese Grant (Virginia Beach, Va.), Celeste Hill (Covington, Ky.), T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.), Clarisse Machanguana (Maputo, Mozambique), Hamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali), and Nyree Roberts (Jersey City, N.J.).
Monique Coker (Bronx, N.Y.) and Ticha Penicheiro (Figiero da Foz, Portugal) are unable to attend due to commitments to their teams abroad. Penicheiro is playing in Italy and Coker is playing in Israel.
These 11 players have a combined 12 CAA Player of the Year awards among them. Hill and Berthieu won the award three times apiece and Penicheiro won it twice.
ODU has celebrated many of these players before, but never have that many greats been on the court together at the same time. Berthieu and Jordan haven't returned since graduating. These 11 players represent the heart and soul of ODU basketball in the last 25 years.
Come celebrate with the Lady Monarchs at 7 p.m. Wednesday, and remember this. Wendy Larry coached them all.
