The remarkable Chelsie Schweers scored 35 points and became the No. 2 scorer in Division III history as Christopher Newport edged Kean 80-76 Friday night in Annville, Pa. to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.
The Lady Captains (28-3) will play either William Paterson or Lebanon Valley on Saturday at 7 p.m. for a Final Four berth.
With her third straight 30-point performance, Schweers now has 2,800 points and passed Meegan Garrity from Clark College (Mass.), who was second with 2,793 points. Schweers also set a new CNU program record for free-throws and free-throw percentage in an NCAA game, going 11-for-11 from the charity stripe in the game.
Jessica Moore added 16 points for the Lady Captains and hit the two free throws that put CNU ahead for good at 77-76 with 1:23 to play. Moore was 6-for-6 from the line on the night.
