Virginia's Ataira Franklin, who led the ACC in 3-point field goal percentage and emerged as the Cavaliers' most consistently productive offensive player, was named to the league's All-Freshman team on Wednesday.
The 5-foot-11 former Riverdale Baptist star is Virginia's first all-rookie selection since Monica Wright in 2007. She is also the second Cavalier this season to earn all-conference honors. On Tuesday, guard Ariana Moorer was selected as the ACC's Sixth Player of the Year.
Franklin led UVa in its 14 conference games by averaging a team-high 12.6 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game. Entering the ACC Tournament, Franklin has scored in double digits in eight-consecutive contests and was named the ACC Rookie of the Week for her performances against Florida State (16 points), NC State (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Maryland (11 points, eight rebounds).
Franklin was joined on the All-Freshman team by Maryland's Alyssa Thomas, Georgia Tech's Ty Marshall, Duke's Chelsea Gray and Florida State's Natasha Howard. Maryland's Thomas, a seven-time conference rookie of the week selection, was named ACC Rookie of the Year.
